On the horizon [ photography ]

Shipping is the lifeblood of the global economy, with cargo ships and freighters carrying 90% of international trade. The global infrastructure of mobilities and logistics goes largely unnoticed, but pauses in the chain make activity visible. This project documents ships queuing to gain entry to ports – temporary immobilites within a vast mobilities flow. Taken over two years, close to the post-industrial port of Wollongong on the East coast of Australia, moored ships were a constant feature of the ocean horizon.
